This one’s a heartfelt spin off that never felt like second tier Who. Sarah Jane Smith, once the Doctor’s most beloved companion, steps into the spotlight, not as a sidekick, but as a hero in her own right. With her adopted son Luke and a crew of brave teens, she defends Earth from alien threats when the Doctor’s not around. And she does it with wit, warmth, and wisdom. Created by Russell T Davies after Sarah Jane’s triumphant return in School Reunion, the show was aimed at younger viewers, but never talked down to them. It tackled real issues: broken families, loss, identity and even Alzheimer’s, all wrapped in sci-fi adventure. Elisabeth Sladen was magnetic, ageless, compassionate and quietly fierce. She made every episode feel like a hug and a call to action. If you grew up watching Tom Baker, this felt like a beautiful continuation. And if you came in through the 2005 reboot, it was a bridge between eras, a reminder that the Doctor’s legacy lives on in those he inspires. Elisabeth Sladen’s passing in 2011 cut the series short, but her impact endures. The Sarah Jane Adventures wasn’t just a spin off. It was a love letter to the idea that life on Earth can be an adventure too.
