Weird TV movie but just not weird enough. A preacher, who is honestly full of himself, and his poor suffering wife are rescued by old west settlers who migrated from back east. They make such a point of it I blurted out “Salem!” The town is San Melas not at all like Salem excepting for the witches and cats. Old Hollywood represents. Ray Milland is less shouty than normal but this is a waste of a well-preserved Gloria Grahame. And if the witch stuff isn’t enough there’s a comically all-black donned gunfighter harassing them. Henry Silva!
What I did like is the preacher is a bit of an ass immediately smitten with the mute femme fatale who, like all witches, runs a candle store. Did I mention he healed a crippled boy and brushes it off?The fantasy dream sequences has their hair blowing in the wind as they embrace like a romance novel cover.
Ending is actually pretty good
