“Anne of the Indies” gives us a bold female pirate at its center, an unusual twist for a swashbuckler, but it’s still bound to the era’s conventions. Anne commands with grit until a romantic turn reduces her to a woman undone by love. The action delivers, with seafaring clashes and swordplay, but the film loses its edge once Anne’s strength is traded for melodrama.
