The Creator looks like what I dream of when I dream of a sci-fi movie. What Greig Fraser, Gareth Edwards and the VFX team have accomplished on a modest budget is astounding. Absolute recommend for that reason alone. It deserves to be seen on the big screen.
I’m predisposed to love these kinds of sci-fi stories. And again, if I were to dream up “sci-fi movie story,” many of the elements would look a lot like The Creator. I really feels like an archetypical sci-fi movie in my eyes—and I love it for that reason. At the same time, despite being an original IP, it’s not going to come off feeling very original for some folks, and downright predictable for others (most perhaps). I think it’s a tremendous achievement though and really hope it does well at the box office. I think it could serve as proof of concept for blockbuster filmmaking on moderate a budget.
