Blade came out in 1998 at the time comic book movies were going down the drain with the Batman movies, Spawn, and other properties not doing well with critics and audiences. Many did not realize Blade was a comic-book with no Marvel logo and Stan Lee's name appearing briefly at the opening credits. I would say that the films biggest strength is Wesley Snipes as Blade, he manages to be calm and reserve for the most part with some scenes showing more emotion when the film demands it. The rest of the cast which include Kris Kristofferson as Whistler, Stephen Dorff as Frost, and N'Bushe Wright ad Karen all do fine in their roles. I will say if your someone who lets say grew up with this film and your re-watching it, don't be surprised if the film hasn't aged with grace. That said i kinda liked the late 1990s style which gave the film its own identity, the only issue it at times the movie feels like a music video due to its use of fast forwarding and some editing. Stephen Norrington doesn't do a bad job as the director and its a shame that his career was ruined with that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film, but he could of eased up on the odd directing choices i mentioned. Also some of the CGI is pretty bad by modern standards (but for the late 1990s it was passable). So in all i do enjoy Blade and in spite of its problems, it is my favorite of the trilogy mostly due to the last third. Not that the first 2/3 were bad, but the last third had some plot twists i didn't expect and some fun action scenes along with a death of a main character (granted its undone by the next film but it was still a good scene). So i recommend you give Blade a watch.
