This movie had some really great reviews, so I was expecting to be hit with some emotional gut punch. I don't think it necessarily accomplishes that. For most of its runtime, it feels a bit saccharine and melodramatic. I think Barbie Ferreira is doing a decent job and is intentionally going overboard, but the script itself doesn't seem like it is able to differentiate itself from a lot of similar movies oriented around this type of loneliness and desire for emotional connection. The movie is strongest when it actually focuses on her relationship with her real father, played really well by French Stewart. The ending is probably also the most impactful part of the movie because it feels the most sincere and personal. I found that landed really well, but I found the rest of the film somewhat okay, decent-ish but nothing special.
