A singer holes up at a sinister estate to write new songs for his act. The ghost of his murdered wife begins to haunt him, then the person who actually killed her shows up at the mansion.
Leans more into psychological horror than outright gore. I'd go as far to say it's a proto-slasher. The killer rocks a grotesque old lady mask that could rival the iconic scene in Curtains. The death scenes, while sparse, are brutal. I do wish there were more because of how grisly they were. An assault of paranoia and confusion as the world around the lead unravels. The pacing can drag, and some of the supporting characters feel underdeveloped, but the film’s mix of sleaze and haunted house tension makes it a quality horror piece. While not as flashy as some of its slasher contemporaries, The Comeback works as a slow-creeping tale of fame, obsession, and murder.
