This here is one of those rare oddities that feels like it beamed in from another dimension- specifically like a very sketchy VHS rental shelf in Southeast Asia. This Indonesian cult film is a bizarre, surreal trip into black magic, body horror, and floating heads with dangling entrails. It's rough around the edges and one hundred percent unforgettable.
Mystics in Bali throws a woman into madness when she quickly gets more than she bargained for- becoming the pupil of a cackling, shape-shifting witch. Soon, she’s vomiting mice, transforming into pigs, and her head detaches from her body to fly around sucking fetuses out of pregnant women. Epic.
The effects are crude but imaginative; featuring janky animation and gooey puppetry all stitched together with a charming lack of self-consciousness. It has that regional horror sincerity with charm and dedication that earns your respect.
