Huge opportunity, damaged by ideology. While some of the below may be fine other changes completely changed the direction and feel of the characters and story.
For example, in the Apple TV+ Foundation series, several key characters were both race- and gender-swapped from Isaac Asimov’s original books:
• Gaal Dornick – White male in books → Black female in show
• Salvor Hardin – White male in books → Black female in show
• Eto Demerzel – White male android (R. Daneel Olivaw) in books → White female-presenting android in show
• Commissioner Chen – White male in books → Asian or mixed-race female in show
• Poly Verisof – White male in books → Black male in show
• Bel Riose – White male in books → Asian male in show
• Brother Dawn/Day/Dusk (Clones of Cleon I) – White males in books → Ethnically diverse male clones in show
• Rue – New character (not in books) → Black female advisor added to the Emperor’s court
