The promise of Ancient Aliens realized in a Roland Emerich sci-fi summer blockbuster. Dr. Daniel Jackson (Spader) uses his knowledge of ancient Egyption to decipher the insructions to an ancient alien artifact, the titular Stargate, which was uncovered by an archealogical expedition in 1920s Giza. Using some clever problem solving he manages to open an instantaneous wormhole to another planet across the universe.
This is the movie that spawned a multiple Stargate television series and is a fun romp in it's own right. Highly recommend checking out this forgotten 90's classic.
