Dredd is the second action-packed adaptation of the legendary Judge Dredd comics. Directed by Pete Travis and written by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later), the film plunges viewers into the dystopian wasteland of Mega-City One, where law enforcers known as Judges serve as judge, jury, and executioner.
Karl Urban stars as Judge Dredd, perfectly capturing his cold, no-nonsense demeanor with a performance that relies more on presence than words—never once removing his iconic helmet, staying true to the source material. Olivia Thirlby plays Judge Anderson, a rookie with powerful psychic abilities, whose character arc adds depth and contrast to Dredd’s hardened personality. The film’s antagonist, Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), is a ruthless drug lord who controls a 200-story high-rise slum, making for a contained yet intensely violent battleground. Despite its simple plot—a siege-style story reminiscent of The Raid (2011)—the film excels in world-building, atmosphere, and relentless action.
