Contact

Contact
📡 Contact is a beautiful, thoughtful movie. So intelligently scripted, directed and acted. Carl Sagan’s novel is thought provoking, questioning the meaning of life in such a way that, though not providing answers, does not really let you down either. Whilst the movie loses the wonderful concept of Ellie finding an intelligent message in her calculation of Pi, it still leaves you with a feeling of amazement at the universe, and the nature of being. The conflict of faith and science is intelligently and fairly dealt with in a way which leaves both sides of the argument room to explore. Ellie’s realisation which questions her certainty that “faith” is unscientific and hence invalid, is shattering.
This really is a greatly underrated movie which would appeal to many people who might not normally watch science fiction. Jodie Foster’s performance is amazing. I cannot believe that she was overlooked for any Oscar mention for this. It is a tour de force. She is well balanced by Matthew McConaughey as an edgy, forward thinking priest.
