Paddington in Peru doesn't quite live up to the first two in the franchise, but it's still a delightful movie. I've generally found that when you leave the main setting of a franchise to travel abroad, you've lost a character in a way, especially how the Paddington films portray London. Even more changes happened with the third outing, as Paul King is no longer the director and Emily Mortimer has taken on the role of Mary Brown from Sally Hawkins. While Mortimer is certainly capable, no one can replicate the whimsical charm that Hawkins brought to the role. As a major part of the previous two is about the strong bond between Mary and Paddington, Hawkins' absence was felt here. Those changes aside, there's still lots to enjoy in this movie, as Paddington is his usual polite, but accident-prone, self, the Browns continue their evolution, and several new characters make their debut. Saying this is the weak point of the trilogy isn't saying much, as it remains one of the highest-quality franchises in modern cinema.
