Christmas came early. The Terrifier series has taken off thanks to two things. The first is the curiosity factor. For genre virgins or lightweights, there's a need to scratch a media induced itch. Is it really as bad as they say it is? Will I walk out, or lose my cookies, or pass out? The other is the affection of genre enthusiasts. Leone absolutely panders to a very specific type of sick fuck...and I proudly count myself among them. As for this this one specifically, it's the most proficiently made of the bunch. Better performances, better writing, better production design. It's a significant step up in that regard. The practical effects are impressive, the type where you utter fuck that's gross as you giggle your demented ass off. The music remains a stellar throwback to the synth heavy films of the slasher heyday. And finally, there's a meanness to alot of it that grounds the silliness. All good things. I also have to mention how good Thornton is. He's truly created an iconic baddie with nothing but his facial expressions and his mannerisms. Art is fucking awesome. LaVera is also much better in 3 which is good since she'll apparently be back. The (minor) letdowns. I liked the little girl clown from 2 better than the sidekick in this one. And yeah, it's gory, but there's nothing as disturbing as that one scene in 2...you know the one.
