I’m from the side of the fence that felt the original’s acclaim owes more to the mystery and infamy of Lee’s death, rather than the quality of the film itself. So my hopes weren’t high when watching this incarnation. For me, a low bar was set that the 2024 reimagining just misses. Relationships feel forced, and from this, the soulmate ‘magic’ doesn’t feel believable. The atmosphere remains consistently dark… but only adds to the dullness of the movie overall. Forgettable.
