After a catastrophic crash, pilot Mills quickly discovers he's actually stranded on an unknown planet. Now, with only one chance at rescue, Mills must make his way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures in an epic fight to survive. From the writers of A Quiet Place comes 65, a sci-fi thriller produced by Sam Raimi, Deborah Liebling, Zainab Azizi, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods.
This ain’t exactly hard sci-fi. In fact most of the sci-fi elements are pretty dumb. The only plausible element was how every living thing on Earth thirsts for Adam Driver.  As a popcorn flick though, the family and I had a great time. Jump scares abound and had my kids leaping from their seats more than a few times. The CGI ain’t great but it’s serviceable and it’s never distracting. Of course there are moments that massively stretch believability. Film reminded a lot of After Earth, but better….and with Adam Driver and dinosaurs. (How’s that for a ringing endorsement?). No, I probably won’t rewatch this one much (if ever) but I think I got exactly what I was looking for from Before Earth. And as always, it probably gets some bonus points for the Long Cold Open.
