An army captain is flying three misfit deserters home for a court martial when the plane has engine trouble and they must land on an uncharted island. There they find a primitive society of cave women who routinely sacrifice virgins to appease The Great One, the top dog dinosaur on the the island. Mistaken for gods, the men must destroy The Great One or face death, but meanwhile they fall in love.
If you like Roger Corman produced films of the lowest budget, with reused props, actors and dinosaurs from other movies, with people like Jim Wynorski and Fred Olen Ray directing then this one is for you. It’s got dorky guys, hot women, bad acting, Michelle Bauer, the same dinosaur model as the movie Carnasaur, and not so great special effects. These are staples of a Roger Corman production. Put girls in various states of undress into weird situations, add some slime, some monsters and the script writes itself. There’s a charm to Wynorski films when he worked for Corman. His independent work was stuff like The Bare Wench Project, which he shot in two days. Compare that with Chopping Mall and you can see he was at his best with Corman. Although Dinosaur Island is no Chopping Mall, it’s not without its merits.
