Kevin Smith wrote this during a time where he was dealing with his own mortality. So it’s hard for me to be harsh on this movie, but it wasn’t meant to be an over the top comedy like many of his other films, which is what you expect based on the title. This movie is very heart felt, but also depressing, and with the characters reflecting so closely to the audience that grew up watching these movies, everything hits too close to home. Don’t watch this expecting to laugh, if you are invested in the characters then have the tissue box handy.
