Because of the buzz I’d heard, I was expecting to like this much more than I did. I really didn’t take to almost any of the characters, at least for the first half. Every characters seemed oddly concerned only with getting in grandma’s good graces for the potential at earning an inheritance. I only really warmed up to it when M finally starts connecting with Amah on a human level and not just an asset on his balance sheet. I know that’s the point, it just felt a little exaggerated. The second half of the film lands much better for that reason. Made me miss my grandmother and wish that I’d spent more time with her before she passed away.
