I just watched Vegas Vacation and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie is absolutely hilarious and one of my favorite entries in the Vacation series. It is packed with goofy moments nonstop chaos and the kind of ridiculous family comedy that never gets old.
The story follows Clark Griswold and his family as they head to Las Vegas for what is supposed to be a fun and relaxing getaway. Of course nothing goes according to plan and everything that can go wrong does. From gambling disasters to weird side adventures every member of the family ends up in some kind of trouble and it is so much fun to watch.
Chevy Chase is classic as always. He brings that perfect blend of charm awkwardness and dad energy that makes Clark such a lovable character. He tries so hard to make every family vacation perfect but it always backfires in the best ways. You can just feel his desperation to hold everything together while everything around him falls apart and that is what makes it so funny.
Beverly D’Angelo as Ellen is great too. She is calm and supportive but also gets some of her own funny moments. The kids are recast again like in every Vacation movie and it honestly makes it even funnier. This version of Rusty and Audrey fits right into the Vegas vibe and they each have their own strange little subplots that are fun to watch.
The Vegas setting is what really makes this movie feel fresh. It is flashy loud and full of opportunities for the Griswolds to mess things up. From wild casinos to cheesy magic shows to strange characters on the strip everything about Vegas gives this movie its own personality. The bright lights and nonstop energy of the city match the chaos of the Griswold family perfectly.
The humor is silly over the top and totally unfiltered. It is full of classic slapstick comedy awkward moments and those cringy situations where you cannot help but laugh. Some jokes are subtle but most of them are loud and ridiculous which is exactly what I want from a Vacation movie.
Cousin Eddie shows up too and he is as insane as ever. His scenes are absolutely ridiculous and every time he appears it adds a whole new level of chaos. He has some of the best lines in the movie and completely steals the scenes he is in.
The pacing is solid. There is always something going on and no part of the movie feels slow. Whether it is Clark blowing all his money trying to win big or the kids getting into trouble everything keeps moving at a fast and funny pace.
The reason I give it 5 out of 5 is not because it is perfect but because of how much fun it is. It is not trying to be deep or emotional it is just here to make you laugh and it does that really well. It captures the spirit of the Vacation series while doing something a little different and it totally works.
Overall Vegas Vacation is a hilarious and underrated comedy that deserves way more love. If you like over the top family chaos with a ton of heart and laughs this one delivers. I had a blast watching it and it is definitely one I will be rewatching again and again.
