I'm not even sure how many times I've seen this now but just a fantastic horror movie all around. The first Conjuring definitely changed the horror game and this one elevated it. The visuals were scarier, it stayed with you longer and the stakes were higher.
Unfortunately I think this is the peak of the Conjuring universe and while I haven't seen every movie in the franchise, I don't think we get back to this level.
Wan found such a visceral way to film these movies, it feels like we as the viewer are right there, in the action, holding our breath for the next scare. I haven't seen any other director able to match it.
Valak:
- 5 out of 5
- the most terrifying Conjuring entity yet.
- the twist of it not being the old man and Valak controlling him to throw off the Warrens was great.
- The Crooked Man avatar was also very creepy.
- Valak so scary they gave it it's own set of movies (The Nun)
