'Vita and Virginia' is a love story of the friendship and affair between writer Virginia Woolf (Elizabeth Debicki) and aristocrat Vita Sackville-West (Gemma Arterton). Their paths cross in Bloomsbury in 1922 when Vita receives an invitation from Virginia. Their romance overcomes all social boundaries, Virginia's mental health struggles, and Vita's recklessness, and neither will ever be the same without the other.

An otherwise excellent performance by both leads is muddled by an indistinct narrative flow. The film carries you at times, with such candor and poetry that you feel you might be swept away, only to awaken in the cinematic equivalent of a hungover morning devoid any memory of how you arrived back home. There are many such drunken nights in Vita & Virginia. And to add insult to injury, the modern soundtrack is completely off-putting and only serves to enhance the experience during the fleeting moments of poetic reverie in-between hungover scene cuts.
