When 4 year old Amanda McCready disappears from her home and the police make little headway in solving the case, the girl's aunt, Beatrice McCready hires two private detectives, Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro. The detectives freely admit that they have little experience with this type of case, but the family wants them for two reasons—they're not cops and they know the tough neighborhood in which they all live.

Casey Affleck is slowly but surely becoming a favorite of mine. His acting is always top notch and he brings it to this role. The rest of the cast is great, with Ed Harris giving one of the best performances I've ever seen from him. This movie makes you ask really tuff morally challenging questions and I dug it. The movie kept me guessing til the end. And when the tension builds it knows how to be extremely suspenseful. Crazy thinking this is Ben Affleck's first film. One of the only negatives is the movie spoon feeds a little to much with flashbacks. I'm thinking a rewatch will make me like this even more.
