A fun 90’s meta-action thriller from the director that helmed Die Hard and Predator, two of the greatest action movies of all time. Last Action Hero isn’t nearly on that level but it’s definitely a fun romp. Arnold gets to poke fun at all his action movie tropes as well as Hollywood films in general. All the women are gorgeous, all phone numbers start with 555. I also love the idea that the bad guys realize that the real world is the only place they can actually get away with murder. The kid is better than Eddie Furlong in Terminator 2, but not by much. I feel like if those movies were made today, casting director’s would do a much better job. Lots of fun cameos in this one, all of which went completely over my kids heads. My daughter asked if Little Richard was Michael Jackson. 😬😬. They sure know how to make me feel old.
