The Worst Week of My Life

The Worst Week of My Life
7.9
Only one week to go before the marriage of Howard and Mel which quickly escalates into the week from Hell. The series follows the bumbling Howard as he lurches from one appallingly embarrassing disaster to the next in the week leading up to his wedding.

You know, I absolutely adore this gem of British comedy - it's honestly one of those shows that keeps you simultaneously cringing and laughing out loud.
Ben Miller is just perfectly cast as Howard, this well-meaning but catastrophically unlucky groom-to-be who somehow manages to turn every simple situation into an absolute disaster. The way he keeps digging himself deeper into trouble feels painfully real, yet it's so brilliantly executed that you can't help but root for him.
The show really shines in its first two episodes especially - there's this bit with poor Binky that's absolutely side-splitting. And the chemistry between the cast is just fantastic. Dick and Angela, the in-laws, are comedy gold. Actually, it's quite interesting - Lee Mack apparently loved the character of Dick so much that he basically recreated him as Geoffrey in "Not Going Out".
Sure, some might say it's a bit like "Meet the Parents," but honestly, this takes that concept and runs with it in such a uniquely British way. The slapstick elements are there, but they never descend into crude humor - it's all rather cleverly done.
Each series focuses on a different hellish week in Howard and Mel's life, from their wedding preparations to Christmas celebrations, and every episode is packed with genuine belly laughs. The wonderful thing is how the show manages to maintain its momentum - just when you think things couldn't possibly get worse for Howard, they absolutely do, but in the most hilariously believable ways.
What really makes this show special is how it balances the farcical elements with genuine heart. Despite all the chaos and mishaps, you never lose sight of the fact that Howard and Mel are genuinely in love, which makes you invest even more in their journey.
Honestly, it's a solid 9/10 for me - a properly funny series that deserves way more recognition than it got. If you enjoy clever British comedy with a dash of chaos, this is absolutely worth your time.
