Reel Review: Rob1n
Rob1n (2025), directed by Lawrence Fowler, is a British horror-thriller that explores the terrifying consequences of grief and artificial intelligence. The film is about a widowed robotics scientist who, in desperation, after his 11-year-old son dies, creates Rob1n, a lifelike robotic doll. Rob1n's behavior becomes increasingly disturbing as the story unfolds, especially when the scientist's estranged nephew and his fiancée come to visit, unleashing horrific events. Although the film has a chilling premise and atmospheric tension, it starts many narrative paths but cannot tie them together. Thus, the story is confusing and attempts to capitalize on the success of similar films that fall in this genre. i.e., Megan, Companion. Despite that, Rob1n is a chilling examination of loss and the dangers of unchecked technological advancement. Overall, I gave this a 3.9 out of 10.
