Teenager Owen is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs, when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show-one which conveys a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the pale glow of the television, Owen's view of reality begins to crack.
I didn’t connect much with Jane Schoenbrun’s We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, but their second feature I Saw the TV Glow felt far more accessible—maybe because the idea of obsessing over a TV show resonates with me more. The film explores themes of identity, parasocial relationships, and the blurry line between reality and media, all while tapping into the darker corners of nostalgia. The eerie, otherworldly atmosphere is perfectly amplified by a killer soundtrack that feels like it was made specifically for this film. A strange and engrossing experience that hit me in all the right ways. Probably Justice Smith’s best role to day. I often find him to feel awkwardly out of place in the film’s he’s been in, but that quality really works here.
