I just watched Sonic the Hedgehog, and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie was such a great time from start to finish. It had the perfect mix of action, comedy, heart, and just enough nostalgia to make longtime fans happy without losing anyone new. I went in hoping for something fun, and I got way more than that. This movie knows exactly what it wants to be and sticks the landing.
Sonic is one of those characters that means something if you grew up with the games. He is fast, cocky, and full of energy — and this movie nails all of that. Ben Schwartz voices Sonic, and he brings so much personality to the role. He makes Sonic likable, funny, and actually kind of emotional at times. You can tell the voice acting was done with real care, not just to sound cool, but to give Sonic a real character arc.
The story is simple but works perfectly for what it is. Sonic ends up on Earth, and of course things go sideways. He gets pulled into a wild road trip with Tom, played by James Marsden, and the two of them have surprisingly great chemistry. Their friendship drives the movie, and there are a bunch of funny and sweet moments between them that make you care about both characters. It is not just action and jokes — there is real heart under all of it.
Then there is Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. He absolutely steals every scene he is in. This is vintage Jim Carrey — all the wild expressions, fast talking, ridiculous energy, and over-the-top confidence. He turns Robotnik into this larger-than-life villain who is both hilarious and just the right amount of threatening. Watching him go full Jim Carrey again was one of my favorite parts of the whole movie.
The action scenes are awesome. Sonic’s speed is used in some really fun ways. The slow motion scenes are a blast to watch, and the way he zips around during chases and fights makes everything feel exciting. The effects look great too. Sonic’s design, especially after they fixed it, is perfect. He feels like a real part of the world, and his facial expressions and movement give him so much personality. They nailed the look and the vibe.
The humor throughout the movie hits really well. There are jokes for kids, but also a lot that adults will enjoy. It never feels forced or cheesy. The timing is sharp, the writing is fun, and the delivery from the whole cast keeps it moving at a great pace. It is just the kind of movie that makes you feel good while you watch it.
I give Sonic the Hedgehog 5 out of 5 stars because it is fast, fun, and full of heart. It is one of the best video game movies I have ever seen and just a great movie in general. It made me laugh, got me excited, and left me wanting more. Overall Sonic the Hedgehog is a blast to watch whether you are a longtime fan or just in the mood for a fun, high energy adventure. It has great characters, awesome action, and a lot of heart. I loved every minute of it.
