Six months after the rage virus was inflicted on the population of Great Britain, the US Army helps to secure a small area of London for the survivors to repopulate and start again. But not everything goes according to plan.
Not quite as philosophical as Days it’s safe to say. Instead it leans further into all out horror, and is a departure from its predecessor. There are some really disappointing issues that stop it building on a terrifying premise, and instead becoming a lazy sequel, with the original, effective score duplicated, and certain scenes more than a little ‘inspired by’. Following a cult classic is never easy, but after a very strong opening, you feel that questions of expected inner bravery, sacrifice and the bond of love will be posed… instead, it suffers from some horrible, horrible dialogue (the FUBAR line almost ruined it entirely for me) and following the twist, what can only be described as a lost opportunity, any potential is furiously canned and thrown away in a matter of minutes (stealth, vanishing villain camera tropes beware). And on that note, the narrative at this point and in the resulting half an hour is just so utterly ridiculous and unbelievable. It’s as if the powers that be looked down at the most deadly threat to human existence and simply said, “better send in the clowns to keep an eye on things.” As a stand alone, run of the mill zombie movie? I’ve seen worse. As an entry following Days? A let down. It’s not a real wonder it took actual years for Years to take shape.
