San Francisco heiress Page Forrester is brutally murdered in her remote beach house. Her husband Jack is devastated by the crime but soon finds himself accused of her murder. He hires lawyer Teddy Barnes to defend him, despite the fact she hasn't handled a criminal case for many years. There's a certain chemistry between them and Teddy soon finds herself defending the man she loves.
The type of familiar courtroom drama and character study that is comfortable and never challenges much thought. Jagged Edge plays on the seductive danger of trust as it is about the legal battle unfolding in the background. This dynamic is supported by a layered script that never quite reveals all of its secrets and will have you second guess every reveal. The courtroom scenes, while firmly rooted in legal drama, are interwoven with intimate moments that hint at a deeper landscape. Even as the film indulges in some well executed twists, it always returns to its central core- a look at two flawed individuals caught in a dangerous game where professional duty and personal desire collide. The narrative undoubtedly leans too heavily on the polish of its period though that's the appeal. It’s an intricate ride into the darker side of human relationships and the legal system, an easy watch for those who may not be appealed to courtroom dramas.
