I show this to my grade 7 classes after reading the book it's based on, Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen. Although there's some weird changes made from the book (a bear attack with an obvious older stuntman rather than a moose attack!), which look like budgetary choices rather than artistic, it still stands up well. The 'Jaws' moment still shocks, and the kids definitely get into it. Rushton, despite his very 80s mullet, is excellent, and really dives into the role.
