Drowns in its own style at times. Maybe the emphasis on style is masking a lack of depth? Or maybe still the lack of depth is the point, given the subject? As if every frame is embodying the excess, the contradictions, the exaggeration. But anyway, it never quite leaves the confines of an origin story, making sure it hits all the things we’ve come to be painfully familiar with in Trump-as-politician, even as it leaves other areas only barely sketched out.
