Set 30 years after its predecessor, it follows Maverick's return to the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program (also known as U.S. Navy-Fighter Weapons School - "TOPGUN"), where he must confront his past as he trains a group of younger pilots, among them the son of Maverick's deceased best friend Lieutenant Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, USN.

I was dubious. Thought for sure the hype for this had to be overblown. A scientological conspiracy perhaps. But…..this movie is fkn awesome. Literally everything is firing on all cylinders. The story is excellent, the action and dogfights are captured incredibly. The callbacks to the original are meaningful but they don’t overdo it. Really good from top to bottom and in my opinion exceeds the original in nearly every way thanks to a truly excellent script. The stakes are raised far above the original, and you feel that the entire runtime, but especially in that tense final act. An absolutely awesome time at the theaters and definitely worth seeing in IMAX.
