No way does this movie deserve all the bad press it's getting. I haven't read the books but have many friends who have. So I was familiar with the material but no idea where the story goes beyond being an 8 book epic. I believe Idris Elba and Matthew McConahay were great in this and the kid wasn't that bad himself. I found the world to be fascinating and really dug all the Steven King references. The action for the most part was entertaining as well. This movie hits problems because it seems like it left a ton on the cutting room floor. When you have a great know actor in 2 quick scenes, you know footage is missing. With the test screenings causing a bunch of shuffling and cramming/rearranging of these books, it's for the worst. The movie moves way to fast and can't spend any time setting up supporting characters and going further into detail of the mythology. Would love to know who is the man in black? The third act feels like it puts it foot on the gas pedal and never lets go in a bad way. I really hope they can retool and flesh out what they have, because I feel it has the potential to be great. I would love an MA tv show! If anything I for sure will be reading these books now!
