The Amateur
After his life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack, a brilliant but introverted CIA decoder takes matters into his own hands when his supervisors refuse to take action.
I think I randomly caught the trailer for this and almost immediately forgot about it? No marketing, and I can’t even tell you when it hit/left theaters but this movie was kinda good?! I don’t need every movie to be big blockbuster-caliber, and this was entertaining. Parts of it moved a little bit slow, but I thoroughly enjoyed the different ways Rami Malek’s character used his own cleverness and intellect to.. get the jobs done 👀. I fully expected his wife to somehow be in on the plot and not dead at all but I guess that would have been a lil too predictable. Action movies (is this considered action?) aren’t really my genre but I would say that this was enjoyable without being overly complicated or too violent. I did see some criticisms online about how the tech, or rather the way he used tech, wasn’t realistic? Just put the fries in the bag, bro. Press play.
