Carrey is a really talented individual. He does actually offer a lot of depth to his acting (The Truman Show) and is an intriguing character (Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond) but everybody needs to start somewhere and although by no means his debut film, Ace Ventura is where he really became popular in the 90s. I've watched some of his early stand up some stuff as well. He really is a master of physical comedy and his facial expressions are superb. He makes this movie. Of course, there are many scenes that aren't PC in retrospect but on the whole this was superb light-hearted family entertainment. I'm too biased by nostalgia to objectively claim this is still funny - it probably isn't - but I found in mildly entertaining again in 2025.
