Ugh...wake me when the film ends. I love movies, comedy, drama, sci-fi, it's all good. I do have my limits to what and in how far I'm willing to go though. Disney animated films should be fun, not existential; light-heart heroes and over the top villains, not an analogy for life, the universe, and all of it...or at least if it is make it fun. Yes I know the reference, and Disney couldn't even get that movie right. Anyway, I digress. A Disney film should first and foremost be a fun adventure and soul does not deliver in the slightest. It is an existential analogy for life, and how we deal with death told in jazz, and r&b. Older Disney films did the same thing, only shorter. For example 'the elephants on parade' in Dumbo dealt with grief through alcoholism, then followed it with getting sober. Soul is a 90 minutes version of 'elephants on parade' that lost the sense of humor immediately and caused everyone around me watching it, including me, to declare nap time out of shear boredom.
