It’s the outcast, buddy, superhero movie the first attempt at Suicide Squad wished it was, and a return to an exciting and entertaining Marvel movie. Where recent MCU films have been accused of being less than marvellous, and having a decidedly obvious downturn in CGI, Thunderbolts feels like a real step in the right direction. You actually want the band of misfits to succeed, and you get the feeling they do too. Where you lose all interest in The Squad, barring Harley, this team feels much more coherent, and with much more heart. It also doesn’t feel like a bridging movie to future movies, which others have.
The final sequence is a little odd, but it’s not a deal breaker. Pint sized Pugh and co., pack a punch, physically and emotionally, and you can’t help but cheer them on, even in some of the cheesier moments. A great cast, an enjoyable watch and a return to form.
