Scream was not the first horror movie I saw as a kid, but it was the most impactful. I'd seen Halloween, Friday the 13th, and more of the "classic" killer movies in the lineup, but when I was 9 or 10 in 1996 and Scream came out, nothing before it mattered.
It's a genuinely great flick. Reinvigorating and reinventing the slasher genre for a new era at the time was amazing, and it still holds up incredibly well to this day.
