The 400 Blows

The 400 Blows
For young Parisian boy Antoine Doinel, life is one difficult situation after another. Surrounded by inconsiderate adults, including his neglectful parents, Antoine spends his days with his best friend, Rene, trying to plan for a better life. When one of their schemes goes awry, Antoine ends up in trouble with the law, leading to even more conflicts with unsympathetic authority figures.

A film that deserves far more than a pithy review.
On paper it's a fairly simple story but it's one weaved in such a way that forces the exploration of many unfortunate and sad contradictions. It feels like the kind of film that lodges itself deep in the back of your mind and years, perhaps even decades later it'll pop out and surprise you with some belated lesson.
With that said, the actual watch is also enjoyable with grounded, believable performances and playfully balanced direction.
Summary; film be good, go watch.
