It’s still perfect.
I grew up in a sci-fi house. My parents were Trekkies, we loved Star Wars, the whole thing. I was 10 when this movie released and understandably not old enough to watch it entirely. But my dad, realizing how profound of a movie and concept it was, knew I would love even the idea of it. So, he walked me through the entire plot verbally, while fast-forwarding to sections of the movie that he felt I could handle.
Mixed with his excited storytelling, we watched scenes like the meeting with The Oracle, Neo’s training sequence, the first bullet time interaction, and Neo’s final fight scene. My mind was absolutely blown. Years later I watched the full movie and loved it even more.
I’m not saying I loved it again this week because of nostalgia. But I can’t ignore how big of an impact this movie, and that experience with my dad, ultimately had on my growing love of sci-fi at an early age.
I had forgotten just how much of a 90s touch this one has, and it makes it even better in my opinion. It’s gritty, not overly polished, and the usage of CG is mixed in with practical effects in a way that makes it easy for me to suspend disbelief.
I love this movie and I think you should, too.
