The Ice Pirates

The Ice Pirates
In the far future water is the most valuable substance. Two space pirates are captured, sold to a princess, and recruited to help her find her father who disappeared when he found information dangerous to the rulers. A real Space Opera with sword fights, explosions, fighting robots, monsters, bar fights and time warps.

I remember this being funnier when I saw it theatrically. Memory is a fickle beast.
This has cheap FX, ugly robots and a surprisingly convoluted plot. It also has Angelica Huston and Ron Perlman in early supporting roles, which is good. And the titular pirates do perform a fair amount of swashbuckling. I appreciated the effort to stick to the concept.
However, no space comedy should ever contain the “n” word, even in 1984.
The time warp bit was kinda funny I guess…
