Sam Raimi, God bless you. Elements of this movie are completely wild. There are some absolutely gruesome kills and tons of excellent horror imagery. Some of the cameos got raucous reactions from the crowd—what they mean for the MCU moving forward is left very much up in their air though (so maybe don’t get too attached to any of them?) The story itself is a bit bland in terms of character motivations. And the first hour is very exposition heavy defining all of the pieces (multiverse jumping, the dark hold, dream walking, the illuminati, etc. etc). But once the nightmarish sequences begin to pour in it’s a pretty thrilling race to the finish. My 7 year old is NOT going to like this film. I’m not sure he’ll even be able to watch it. If he does, he’ll be sleeping in my bed for weeks. That being said, I loved the Raimi horror sensibilities to the fullest. Please give me more gruesome kills. Fun fun stuff.
