Enthralling, entertaining, mind-bending.
Neo is an employee at a software company and a hacker. He starts to receive strange messages on his computer, as if he’s being watched. Then he is contacted by Morpheus and Trinity, legends in the hacking community. What they have to tell him will change his entire perception of reality.
Excellent film. Clever, original, intriguing plot. Possibly too clever – lose concentration for a moment and you can easily lose track of what’s happening it’s that intricate. Despite the complexity, originality and science-fiction nature of the film it’s also quite plausible. There’s a few minor contrivances but generally the plot is pretty watertight.
Aiding the sci fi plot is mind-bogglingly brilliant CGI. It still looks amazing today and was absolutely revolutionary in 1999. This CGI allows for the physics-defying action scenes, of which there are many. The action scenes are quite something to behold.
