Grimy, offbeat proto-slasher that feels like a strange mix of Gothic horror and exploitation. From its BRUTAL opening murder sequence to the offbeat atmosphere, Blood and Lace manages to feel both sleazy and oddly dreamlike. It’s not quite a slasher, though it shares DNA with the genre, and it’s not just an exploitation piece, though it has that edge. Instead, Blood and Lace hovers in a weird limbo of psychological horror, suspense, and just enough shock value. That said, it’s rough around the edges but the film’s grimy aesthetic and mean spirited tone makes it memorable.
