Cobra Kai

Cobra Kai
This Karate Kid sequel series picks up 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament and finds Johnny Lawrence on the hunt for redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo. This reignites his old rivalry with the successful Daniel LaRusso, who has been working to maintain the balance in his life without mentor Mr. Miyagi.

An outstanding legacy sequel that improves on its source material in every conceivable way. Every character is given depth, every moment is given weight. It retroactively makes the original movies better just for being in proximity to this masterpiece. A nearly one-of-a-kind experience that not only improves on the source material, not only iterates on it, not only creates an unforgettable cast of new characters to complement the returning figures, but also updates the setting faithfully to the 21st century to tell a story of loss, struggle with identity, generational trauma and how to overcome all that by finding kindness and community.
As I reached the final parts of this series, a melancholy overcame me to think that this cast, which I'd grown to love over the course of six seasons, would once more pass from my life. If that's not an indication of the deep attention and care the creators poured into every second of this series, I don't know what is. You need to see this.
