I really wanted to love it, but I ended up liking it. The issue between these two points is the humour, or more specifically, the lack of consistency. There are moments that are darkly amusing, which has an uncanny knack of working with horror movies, and the Final Destination comparisons fit here. However, it also goes through moments of ridiculousness and almost slapstick, which kind of voids the horror element entirely, reducing it to more of a sarcastic comedy, for which it isn’t bad. It also fails to maintain the feeling of constant dread and fear associated with the idea of The Monkey. All that being said, it’s a fun watch, easy going, but is perhaps one of those films that you have a nagging “what if” about. One good watch, but not in need of a second.
