Man this was such a let down from the previous two films. This was supposed to be the finale of the trilogy and instead of making it grand or exploring new themes, they went with a prison camp story that’s been done so many times before. It’s just an unoriginal plot with good CGI. They should not have made Caesar speak so much English with his ape family, it makes him seem more human and removes that commanding animalistic aura. I don’t know why they killed Blue Eyes so early after giving him so much development in Dawn. I thought Woody Harrelson did a great job acting highly deranged and evil but again it was an unoriginal cartoonish villain that had no complexity. I did like seeing Caesar wrestle with his revenge fuelled emotions and flashbacks of Koba. Maurice is always a welcoming presence to have on screen. The visuals were amazing and this wasn’t a bad movie, but when you compare it to its predecessors, it isn’t that special and squanders so much potential for complex storytelling and character development. Caesar is in my opinion one of the best characters created in movie history, it was a mistake to off him just to bring finality to the series and the trilogy ends on a whimper. I hope the fourth film revives this franchise because I can’t get enough of awesome CGI apes battling philosophically and physically with human beings and amongst themselves.
