Jason Bateman får her sin spillefilmsdebut som instruktør, men heldigvis har han hyret en solid skuespiller til at spille hovedrollen: Sig selv! Bateman ses som Guy Trilby, der er i 40'eren, men aldrig kom længere end 8. klasse. Det faktum udnytter han til at få adgang til stave-konkurrencer, hvor han skal konkurrere mod små børn! Det er hans mål at nå hele vejen til den store finale i Los Angeles. Undervejs bliver han, noget modvilligt, venner med knægten Chaitainya, og snart begynder de to at lave ballade!

Not sure if this movie is funny enough to excuse it's casual racism, even though it thinks it pulls it off.
Professor Indiana Jones calling a Chinese boy "Short Round" as a sobriquet is NOT the same as a nobody, spelling bee loser calling an Indian Boy "Slumdog" or, "Chai-Walla" or, a bunch more.
Still, it's pretty funny if you can take a fucking joke.
And it has a pinch of heart.
