Just before the destruction of the planet Krypton, scientist Jor-El sends his infant son Kal-El on a spaceship to Earth. Raised by kindly farmers Jonathan and Martha Kent, young Clark discovers the source of his superhuman powers and moves to Metropolis to fight evil. As Superman, he battles the villainous Lex Luthor, while, as novice reporter Clark Kent, he attempts to woo co-worker Lois Lane

While very clearly a product of it's time, there is an earnest optimism and general feeling of good will that shines through and keeps Superman feeling warm and fuzzy.
I can't believe that it's taken me this long to sit down and watch Superman properly but it's clear to me now why people think that we will never quite recapture the Christopher Reeve magic... and maybe they are right. Reeve was quite clearly perfect for the role.
The 4K bluray doesn't do much to justify it's own existence, but the more 4K blurays we get the better.
